Where is the RoHS directive applied?

Legally, the RoHS directive only affects the European Union; however, in practice it is becoming a global standard, due to the size of the European market. Similar legislations are currently being created in other countries. RoHS is a “single market” Directive, that is to say, it must be practiced uniformly within the EU.
